Lovely and romantic two-room apartment, on the sixth and top floor of a Haussmann-style building, with a small balcony, quiet with lots of light, a view on the rooftops, located in a lively residential neighborhood just off the Canal St. Martin at Métro Jacques Bonsergent and just up the way from République. Completely renovated in 2008, it is comfortably and soberly decorated to accent the light and air ; the balcony, which is filled with flowers and situated in the sleeping area, opens on the sky. The American-style kitchen, living and eating space face a large and luminous interior courtyard. There is no elevator. Sharing the neighborhood with the famous « Hotel du Nord », the Canal St. Martin, with its long promenade, restaurants, cafés, boutiques as well as food shops, is 50 meters from the front door. A stone’s throw from the more commercial Square de la République, the neighborhood is home to yuppies, guppies, mothers, fathers and kids who mix easily with gawping tourists, social security civil servants and local layabouts. The Alhambra concert space, just one street over, has a quality musical program. If you’re not in to walking, even in Paris, the Vélib city bike rental (1€/day) is just down the apartment building. If you want to go to nearly any point in Paris, the nearby République station is just a stone’s throw. You can catch a direct line for places including Nation, Bastille, Chatelet, St. Michel and the Champs Elysées, most accessible in under half an hour from this station. From Jacques Bonsergent you are five minutes from the Gare de l’Est and the Gare du Nord for trains to London, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, or Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. Welcome to this most typical of Parisian apartments.
